Quilt Story: For Grandma

Many special moments have come out of the 2020 pandemic. In many ways we have grown closer to our families, even when we couldn’t physically be with them. While I haven’t been able to see my parents in just over a year, we spend a lot of time on video together which makes it at least a little bit easier. I know many have had the same experience. Linda Edwards sent in this heartwarming story of the quilt that she made for her 94 year old grandmother. And it was her first quilt! I had a very special and close relationship with my grandmother who passed away at 98. I miss her everyday and wish I could see her sparkling blue eyes as they twinkled when she laughed. And she laughed a lot :) Linda’s story and pictures of her grandmother brought those memories right back!

This is my grandma. She’s 94. I made my first quilt for her during this quarantine. I am a crocheter by trade and what started out as a crochet project evolved into this “Everything quilt. Everything she loves, every Holiday, and memories of our times together my entire life.

We live in different states and so I rarely get to see her. She was so happy and even more surprised that I even taught myself to sew. (She had tried to teach me when I was a child but I had no interest) . I enclosed a letter wrapping her in warmth, hugs, love and fond memories.
