Quilt Story: Bonnie Devito-Humienny

Bonnie is a close childhood friend of mine. She is always the person who has a smile on her face, makes you feel special and would be there for you in an instance when she is needed. Beyond that, she is one of the most creative and crafty women I know. She can do anything and was always an inspiration to me. Though we live many states away, and don’t talk often, we connect on social media to keep up with everything going on with each other’s family. It’s my honor to highlight Bonnie in her Quilt Story. As she has said, she only started quilting but her first quilts are still amazing ❤

Made with love

When a friend of Bonnie’s husband passed away, she took his dress shirts and made them into this quilt so that her friend had this special remembrance of her husband.

Bonnie used every part of his shirts - pockets, buttons and button edging to use in the quilt. She made rosettes with the extra buttons.

She is proud of the way it turned out even though she says the stitches are not perfect and she used her old sewing machine! We think it turned out terrific and I’m sure that her friend will treasure the quilt, the love that went into making it and the memories that she will enjoy every time she looks at it. Truly, this is the beauty of the quilts - a little piece of love.
