We’re always on the lookout for wonderful quilt stories. We happened to see Karen Rash’s post on a FaceBook group where she was sharing the quilt she made with her friend Kimberly Cates Coleman and quilted by Cathy’s Quilting , Hot Springs Arkansas . This is a beautiful quilt and a beautiful story. Thank you, Karen, for allowing us to share! ❤

From Karen: Here is my latest project. I call it Michigan Snowy Pines. There is a story behind this. I have a dear friend who found out she had cancer. I couldn’t be there to support her through her treatments because she lives in Michigan and I live in Arkansas. I wanted to comfort her in some way. I had visited her a few years back and she lives in a beautiful cabin snuggled deep in the Michigan Pines. Edyta Sitar’s quilt “Pinehurst “ from Laundry Basket Quilts inspired me so much that I felt this could be a good way I could hug my friend through this process of healing.

Everything about my quilt has meaning. The background was done in white that had stars and dots which made me think of snow falling on the trees at night. All the trees came from my collection of green fabrics. The backing is green with snowflakes. The quilting was done to look like the wind blowing through the pines. (Cathy’s Quilting , Hot Springs Arkansas). I have to give credit to a couple friends who helped me with this quilt.

I asked my friend if she would like to help me with the trees so to expedite the project to get it to my friend as soon as possible? She gladly helped me and did a wonderful job.

Another friend did the Label for me. It’s beautiful don’t you think? Another little tidbit that makes this quilt even more special. I didn’t know it until Kim brought it to my attention but one of the Pine trees is Michigan’s state tree! That gave m…

Another friend did the Label for me. It’s beautiful don’t you think? Another little tidbit that makes this quilt even more special. I didn’t know it until Kim brought it to my attention but one of the Pine trees is Michigan’s state tree! That gave me goose bumps. Even though I made a couple mistakes, I’m very pleased how it turned out. My friend loves it and has been using it.
