Quilt Story: Jill Therriault

In 1998 Jill had the privilege and once in a lifetime opportunity to be one of 7 actresses in the play “The Quilters”, a 16 song musical about quilting in pioneer women’s lives coming west. Being the only actual quilter in the show, she was given the opportunity to design, piece, quilt and keep the final quilt that the play is based on.

Jill says, “It was an honor to share my craft and knowledge with these women who were presenting to be “quilters”. It was at the time when all the Smithsonian reproduction fabrics were available so that it what I used. I was a brand new long arm quilter but I had just enough skill to complete this quilt.”

“The quilt was raised up in the last act and everyone loved it. Few actually understood the work that went into drafting each of 16 blocks, constructing the setting and finishing the quilt. But I knew and was the proud maker. All my memories of this bucket list event are stitched into this quilt.”
